The spring auction season goes into full swing this week with auctions of deep-sea diving gear, European furniture, and Americana.
The diving gear will be offered at Boston Harbor Auctions Marine Auction Saturday and Sunday at 11 a.m. at 185 Purchase St.
It is from the collection of Tom Hering (1950-2011), a second-generation hard-hat diver.
The 300 lots include more than two dozen hard hats, 20 pairs of weighted diving boots, mittens, leather weight belts, diving suits, knives, pumps, and radios as well as other diving-related items ranging from books, magazines, and pamphlets to toys, including GI Joe divers and board games.
In addition to the Hering Collection, the 550-lot auction includes a large selection of ship models ranging from an admiralty-style model of the warship USS Constellation of 1812 ($8,000-$12,000) to a five-foot detailed model of President Kennedy’s Wianno Senior sailboat “Victura” ($2,500-$3,500). The 26-foot Wianno Senior was a gift from JFK’s parents for his 15th birthday and remained a favorite with him.
