Morgan Library Research

Over the last two weeks we have made two visits to the Morgan Library in New York.  The kind and helpful staff at the Corsair Reading Room, assisted a member of our Gallery in researching several pieces in their over 250,000 records.

This time around, we were able to locate more inventory lists and orders for Corsair porcelain, the pieces we are selling in the November 9th Auction. There is also a note from the porcelain distributor to Mr. Morgan stating their apologies for a glazing problem they were having at the manufacturing facility.  We are selling a Corsair platter, the kind we sold for upwards of $30,000 at the May 1, 2011 Auction, that has inconsitent glazing throughout.   This find was very exciting! In our research, there are several Yacht Corsair inventory lists, outlining each piece of crockery on the boat from Asparagus plates to bowls to dinner and luncheon plates.

Also, we were able to locate wine cellar inventory that further substantiates the bottles we are selling in the November 9th Auction.  A list shows bottles of Ne Plus Ultra Cognac with the same vintage date of 1795, as is in lot #139.

More to come....
